Amsterdam Film Week and Kuvva invited a total of 18 artists to visualize their own creative visions on six films in poster format. Each artist was instructed to work on one particular film with only black, gold and white as colors to work with.
The jury consists of Ferry van Zijderveld (AFW/UNDOG), Thijs Remie (Kuvva) and Gijs Kuijper (seasoned movie poster designer).
All nominated posters will be exhibited at De Balie, be entered into the kuvva.com gallery and on wetransfer.com, as well as being displayed on a 300m2 LED screen in Den Haag and across NS mainline train stations. The nominees in alphabetical order:

Josse Blase, The Tree of Life
Josse’s end result is considered innovative in the realm of film posters. It’s an exciting piece of work in which form and content are very nicely balanced into a dark and twisted, yet playful poster.

Krishnaa Gada, Black Butterflies
Krishnaa’s entry is instantly recognizable as a film poster. Re-using the original movie poster’s typography, the end result is elegant and balanced with the butterfly sunglasses as a nice twist.

Dennis de Groot, Black Swan
Dennis extends his line of his ‘Bare Essentials’ themed illustrations with this entry. The end result is a beautiful and balanced poster, although a clear link to the film’s theme seems to be missing.

Laszlito Kovacs, Somewhere
Visually very powerful and instantly recognizable as a film poster. Laszlito managed to nicely balance his own signature style with a strong visual reference to the work of Saul Bass.

Luis Mendo, Ghost Writer
Beautifully made with clear and well balanced typography. The jury argues that this entry’s visual impact would make a great book cover, but might be too subtle to function as a real-world film poster.

Celeste van der Spoel, The King’s Speech
The jury appreciates Celeste’s approach to ignore any assumption of what a film poster should look like. The visually bare bones end result is fascinating, although somewhat hard to read.
Additional information:
When it came selecting six names to pick – one for each film – the jury was divided and would have preferred to choose the six strongest entries across the board – independent of which film they were created for. However, the overall winner – which will be announced during the Amsterdam Film Week – was chosen swiftly and unanimously. This person will win a Van Moof bike.
Thanks to Amsterdam Film Week, the Jury and to all wonderful Artists!
