View set on Kuvva.comKevin Karanja, a.k.a. Konation, hails from Nairobi, Kenya. Karanja is a self-taught digital designer, specialising in motion and graphic design. He aims to have his own design collective one day. His work is not commercially focused, but he “always tries to make art”. His biggest fear is to be generic. The set featured on Kuvva is entitled ‘Akili ni nywele’, which is a Swahili proverb that translates to “Intelligence is [like] hair, every person has his/her own”. It is used to portray a sense of uniqueness in an individual’s intelligence, opinion or creativity.

View set on Kuvva.comBrandon Graham (1976) is a comics artist, best known for his work on the series ‘Multiple Warheads’ and the Image series ‘Prophet’. He grew up in Seattle and at a young age decided his time was better spend drawing comics rather than going to school. He managed to get his first comic published at the age of 19. He’s been honing his craft ever since. In 2013, Graham was nominated for five Eisner awards. He currently lives with his wife Marian Churchland in Vancouver BC.

View set on Kuvva.comSarah Milton is a surface pattern designer and printmaker from York, UK. Her surface patterns are a series of striking geometric prints that derive from abstracted typography. She’s adopted a unique drawing style, using origami folds to distort letters, numbers and characters. Milton’s work results in a bold and rhythmic collection that switches what is usually legible (typography), and what is not (process). She’s just launched her first Wallpaper Collection at Designjunction during the 2012 London Design Festival.

Agnes Thor is Swedish, born in 1986, lives and works in NYC. “I see these landscapes as portraits. What you see is not only grass, trees, fields. The images are a reflection of me, and also allow the viewer to see themselves. Aurora Borealis is a personal story, portraying both familiar and foreign surroundings and like memories the photographs are neither fictional nor real, but are nevertheless true.”

The set featured on Kuvva are photographs taken in Chuandixia, a small village near Beijing constructed during the Ming dynasty. The town is known for its well-preserved courtyard mansions, of which some feature classic Maoist slogans on their outer walls. A photography enthusiast of five years, Schoenmakers’ style is similar to photo-journalism, but sometimes goes the complete opposite direction.

De Meijer’s images are characterized by their understated dramatic quality, playing around beautifully with contrasting shapes and colors.
